I was one of those kids that enjoyed going to the dentist when I was growing up. And my dad is a pharmacist. So I knew I wanted to do something in the medical field, but I wasn't for sure that I wanted to go into pharmacy. So I started looking around at different things, and I actually came and shadowed Dr. Harper and another dentist, local dentist. And right then and there, I knew that's what I wanted to do.
The number one thing about being a dentist is taking care of our patients. Especially the patients that have had bad experiences at other places and come to you really wanting some help and you're able to take care of them, and do things that other offices couldn't do for them or provide for them. I want them to feel like they're at home. Very relaxed. First couple of visits, they're going to be nervous. But after that, I want to win them over, just a good experience, and I want them to be treated just with kindness and just like everybody would want to be treated.
I've seen a lot of these patients since I've been out of dental school. Just developing a relationship and taking care of them and their family, and providing good quality dentistry. You leave the day and you know you've done something special for someone, and you having changed their quality of life for the better.
