Dr. Harper: I have been practicing dentistry for 36 years. I started practicing in 1980. I grew up in Trenton, graduated from Peabody High School. I received my undergraduate degree in Biology from the University of Tennessee at Martin. I went to graduate school at the University of Tennessee Knocksville and after graduate school, I went to dental school. Graduated from the University of Tennessee Center for the Health Science in Memphis in 1979. Came back to Trenton, built this office, and began practicing dentistry in January of 1980. I went to a Dentist that I considered a modern dentist and saw what the practice of dentistry was like, which was totally different from the small town dentistry that I had been used to. Dentistry allowed me to have the best of all worlds. I could come back to my home town. I could be in the healthcare profession that I wanted to be in. I could have the family lifestyle that I wanted. I am very family oriented, faith oriented, and one of the things that has always been important to me is, I mentioned a while ago, is family. I have a lovely wife and two great children. My son is back and he farms with my father and my daughter lives in Nashville but we're still very close. I try to say active in the community. I've been on the school board for about 16 years. I've been Chairman of the school board for about 12. So, I'm actively involved in the local education in Trenton. I grew up on a farm. The family business is farming. My father farmed. My son graduated from Old Miss, got accepted to Law school. He said, "Dad, I don't want to go to Law School, I want to come back and farm with my granddad." So he came back and took over the family business. On the side and on the weekends, I still enjoy going out to the farm, farming, driving a tractor. That's something I grew up with and the practice of dentistry allows me to do that. I want every patient to know that I'm compassionate and caring. I know that everybody is different. I try to tailor my dentistry, my patient care around those same principals. Everybody gets an individualized treatment plan. Everybody gets treated as an individual and not only myself but my staff, we all try to make the patient feel at home, feel part of our dental family, and to feel well taken care of.
